言語学あるいは日本語学の基礎的知識があることが望ましいですが、必ずしも前提としません。初回の授業で詳しい本年の講義内容と進度を示したシラバスを配布し、説明します。

Prior knowledge of linguistics/Japanese linguistics is desirable, but not
necessary. The first class is very important as the detailed class schedule
and an overview of the class will be provided and explained.

本講義では前期の「言語類型論特殊研究」を補完する形で、以下の（１）～（２）を達成することを目的とします。（１）言語類型論という学問の分析手法・説明に関する理解を実際の研究論文を読むことで深める。（２）言語類型論の成果を日本語に応用したケーススタディ（論文等）を読み、世界の言語の中で日本語のもっている特徴に関する理解を深める。

This lecture class will complement the content of 言語類型論特殊研究(offered in the
first semester).The objectives of this lecture class are the following:　

(I) to enhance the students’ understanding of analytical and explanatory method
in Linguistic Typology through the reading of outstanding (and epoch-making)
articles in the field;

(II) to enhance the students' understanding of the structural and functional
characteristics of the Japanese language in the languages of the world
throughthe reading of articles which adopt a typological approach.

（１）言語類型論という分野の顕著な成果であるいくつかの論文を通読し、言語類型論という分野へ
の理解を深めます。担当教員の解説と授業参加者の発表の両方を補完的に行います。

（２）言語類型論研究の日本語への応用例を読み、世界の言語の中で日本語が構造・機能の面で
どのような特徴を有しているかに関する理解を深めます。担当教員の解説と授業参加者の
発表の両方を補完的に行います。

第1週目: 授業で全体のスケジュールが示されます。
第2週目～15週目：毎回言語類型論分野の異なったテーマを扱った論文（あるいはbook chapter)
　を批判的に読んでいきます。講師によるレクチャー形式、単位受講者による発表形式の両方を
　週によって織り交ぜて授業を展開していきます。

(1)&(2):

Participants will read the selected papers on linguistic typology
and/or the application of typological method to Japanese language,
and make presentations (those who regiester for credit) to have a
better understanding of the field, guided by the explanation
of the instructor.

The first week class: Introduction to the entire course schedule will be given.

The 2nd to the 15th week classes: Participants will read a paper (or a book
chapter) covering a specific topic in linguistic typology. Lecture-style
classes (by the instructor) and presentation-style classes (by those
registering for the class) will alternate.

以下の教科書を使用する予定です。The following textbook (scheduled to be published this year) shall be used as the main textbook:

バーナード・コムリー『言語類型論と言語普遍性』（ひつじ書房, 1992) (Bernard Comrie, Linguistic Typology and Language Universals, 1989, U. of Chicago Press), Croft, W. Typology and Universals (Cambridge UP, 2003), 堀江薫・プラシャント・パルデシ『言語のタイポロジー　－認知類型論のアプローチ-』（研究社, 2009)

The above mentioned textbooks are recommended as supplementary readings.

最初の授業で配布するシラバスに毎回進む範囲、扱われるテーマが示されていますので、予め自宅で該当範囲を読んだ上で授業に臨まれることを期待します。

Students are expected to read in advance the materials to be covered each time to have a better understanding of the lecture.

（１）レポート（80％）：単に他の研究成果や文法書・辞書の記述をまとめただけで、自分独自の
分析・考察を欠いたレポートは相対的に評価が低くなります。また、自分の方法論や仮説・
主張を分かりやすく説明する工夫も評価の対象となります。他人の研究からの引用や「剽窃」
　　　には十分注意ください。

（２）１回の「授業内の発表」を含む授業参加（20％）

　　　なお、5回以上講義を欠席した場合は、学期末レポートを提出しても
単位を認定することができないので、注意してください。

(1) Term paper (80%): Please note that the content of the term
paper should include original ideas, not just quotations.
Also, plagarism must be avoided.

(2) Class participation including a in-class presentation (20%)


Please note that five absences will lead to the cancellation of
the registered class.

60点以上を合格とします。
To pass, students must earn 60 points in total.
